A particularly good days locking today if I may say so, although it was primarily down to getting in front of a family group of 11 who on a 2 week holiday in a hire boat and are keen to get as far as they can in the time. With their able assistance we scuttled through Audlem flight of locks (15) in something around about 2 hours which works out at about 8 minutes a lock. I was going to stop for lunch on the visitor moorings in Audlem, but given the speed of the assistance we were getting it seemed a pity to waste the chance.

Tomorrow’s target is bridge 59 which is just beyond Tyreley Locks, so we have 10 locks to do and about 6 miles, so less work than today.

Nantwich

Here I am Rune
Distance  3.4 miles
Total 3030 Locks  160 Tunnels
Running total mileage 4457.8 miles

As planned we are back into Nantwich, although moorings are few and far between, we have a bit further to walk to town from our mooring, but at least we found one.

Since it is the bank holiday weekend this week we have tried to get a lot of the stuff we came to Nantwich to do sorted out today. This meant a phone call to Garry who services the stoves to come and check the seals on the chimney and stove before we move on. All seemed reasonably OK although he has given us some silicone filler to re-seal the base of the chimney if the current filler starts to come away.  We also had a load of train tickets to collect from the station. Finally I took the opportunity for a dip in the local pool, after getting my hair cut.

The current plan is to remain here tomorrow and possibly move on Saturday.

The forecast for today was clearly subject to change. Yesterday it said rain whereas today it had been changed to sun and rain, and that was pretty much what we had. It is still a bit cold but it does seem as though the shoots of Spring are starting to appear.

No great dramas of any sort today, and surprisingly since it is Easter at the weekend, still not very much moving on the canal. We should be into Nantwich by tomorrow.
