Selby

Here I am Rune
Distance 11.4 miles
Total 2783 Locks  130 Tunnels
Running total mileage 3825.4 miles

Well we have got as far as Selby as planned, but the planning for the next few days might have changed a bit. Talking with the Lock-Keeper, there is quite a lot of fresh water coming down the river to the degree that when the current neap tide turns the river doesn’t actually change direction it merely slows down a bit. What this means is that if we continue on to Naburn it is going to take us several hours to get there against the flow of the river. If however we wait until Saturday, or beyond, the approaching spring tide will start to take effect and will give us some propulsion towards Naburn, we will therefore remain here until Saturday before we carry on towards York. The bonus of that is if we stay in the York environs for just over a week we will then be coming back on the neap tide, which was always my intention, so instead of hanging around on the Ouse around York we will be hanging around on the Selby Canal, in Selby. This should give us opportunity to see what is here.

The downside of waiting until Saturday however is that it will involve a particularly early start (6.30am!!)
