Melbourne

Here I am Rune
Distance 1.7 miles
Total 2802 Locks  130 Tunnels
Running total mileage 3935.1 miles

Today’s trip was really just completing the bit we should have done yesterday so is only just over half a mile. After the nightmare of the weed on the lower sections of this canal, from last night’s mooring at Gardham Lock to here at Melbourne we had very little problem with weed. Speaking with a few people in this basin however it seems that they often do ‘Sunday cruises’ from here down to the lock and back, which may explain why it is relatively clear. Also on a Sunday there is a trip boat that runs 30 minutes cruises over the same section. Tomorrow however we will need to make our way back down the canal and river back towards Barmby Barrage. Following the comment in yesterday’s posting, we have been in touch with the lock-keeper at the barrage and will indeed be going back to Selby on Tuesday morning’s tide, even though it is getting up towards a full spring tide, provided we time it OK and arrive at Selby on High tide it should be OK.
