Linton Lock

Here I am Rune
Distance 15.9 miles
Total 2786 Locks  130 Tunnels
Running total mileage 3855.4 miles

Quite a long day today (for us) to get us from Naburn up here to Linton Lock. There was very little flow on the river, it was similar to our trips along the Thames, but we seemed to average only about 3.4 miles per hour. Once we’d got here to the mooring I checked the propshaft and found a load of plastic wrapped around it so if I’d cleared that before we left York we would have probably travelled a bit quicker (and with less vibration on the tiller arm).

There isn’t that much in the way of visitor moorings here and I’ve had to breast up with a helpful broadbeam who had also just travelled up from the outskirts of York. We put into York on the way to collect some essential supplies and I have to say that the town centre seems very pleasant and I look forward to spending a couple of days there on the way back down.

One interesting innovation here at Linton Lock is where they have installed a Archimedian screw hydro electric power generating plant.

The power plant

The plan tomorrow (weather permitting) will be to try to get to Boroughbridge (about another 10 miles). The forecast wasn’t too good though, we will have to see.
