Tattershall Bridge

Here I am

Distance 11.4 miles  Rune

Total 4692 Locks  313 Tunnels

Running total mileage 6,937.1 miles

So after a brief overstay in Boston (6 days instead of the permitted 5) we are back on the move again, heading towards Lincoln. The cause of the overstay was because we’d booked a sea trip on the Boston Belle to go to the mouth of the River Witham, but got notification that the Monday Cruise had been cancelled and they could offer us a Tuesday Cruise instead. Having cleared the extra day’s stay with CRT we then took the cruise yesterday. It was well worth the effort, £22 OAP rates and the trip is just short of 30 miles, down the Witham and out into The Wash (which was like a mill pond) before then going up the River Welland to view a load of seals sunbathing on a beach. They are clearly well used to trip boats since our presence didn’t disturb them in any way.

The other ‘must do’ when in Boston is to climb the Boston Stump tower which gives a good panoramic view of the extremely flat surrounding land. We did that climb on Sunday, although the stairway up isn’t for anyone who suffers from claustrophobia since it is a very narrow stairway.

When leaving Boston ,my aim was to get to Dogdyke Moorings but on arrival they were all taken so we had to press on another mile to Tatteshall Bridge moorings where there was plenty of space. Once again we seem to be quite close to RAF Coningsby so we’ll be getting a few jets coming across.
