Fiskerton Fen

Here I am Rune

Distance 13 miles

Total 4693 Locks  313 Tunnels

Running total mileage 6,950.1 miles

Unlike the last time we moored near RAF Coningsby when jets were coming over late into the night, we had no disturbance from them last night. They took off this morning after we had set off so no disturbance then and they were amazing to watch, Typhoons that took off from the runway and then went straight upwards, I don’t know what the G Force would be for them doing that, but quite considerable I would think (almost like being on a launched rocket).

As we came up the River Witham the weed situation deteriorated, needing quite a lot of forward and reverse thrust to try to keep the propeller clear. When we got here I checked down the weed hatch and had generally kept the prop clear but unfortunately some had collected around the propeller shaft that is almost impossible to throw off without stopping and going down the hatch.

I saw this mooring as we went down the Witham and was quite keen to moor here on the way back since it is nicely isolated. I thought my plan was going to have to be amended as we approached as there was a 3 piece boat moored here, but there was enough room on the end of the pontoon for us.

Plan is to stay until tomorrow and then possibly move on to Washingborough Visitor moorings about 2 miles out of Lincoln (we are currently about 7 miles out) to remain for the weekend. If the moorings are full we’ll have to carry on into Lincoln, but Washingborough is my first preference.
