I think that it would be fair to describe today as hard
work! We only covered just over 2 ½ miles but it included 15 locks and the
locks on the Rochdale tend to be quite heavy to work. The fact that it rained
for most of the day made it all seem a lot harder work as well. Under different
circumstances we would probably have written today off and stayed moored up in
Todmorden but we want to get through Manchester before the schools break up for
half term as there are areas in which the local youth have a reputation for
being a bit of a nuisance. It is for that reason that we pressed on today
through the poor weather. We will also need to press on tomorrow but I hope
that the weather is better.
