Derwent Mouth Lock

Here I am Rune
Distance 4.7 miles
Total 2577 Locks  122 Tunnels
Running total mileage 3560.5miles

The moral of the story is to not always believe the weather forecasters! Today was supposed to have been OK according to yesterday’s weather forecast, well it wasn’t. As soon as we set off from filling the water tank at Trent Lock it started to rain and continued raining all the way up the Trent to where we turned by Shardlow Marina and back to Derwent Mouth Lock, where is stopped. We took lunch there but it then clouded over again, looking like it was going to pour down again, at that point we kicked it into touch and moored up for the day.

With today’s quite short trip however we have now completed the Navigable River Trent (except the bit from Keadby to Trent Falls, but I think I’d want a seagoing boat for that), and we can also tick off the Erewash Canal as another one we have completed.

We’ll see how the weather turns out tomorrow before committing ourselves to a day of travel.

The end of the Navigable Trent (note the rain!)
