Once again we didn’t get quite as far as we had intended, but only a couple of miles short. We have managed to clear Stockton and Calcutt Lock flights, which was the main intention. Part of the delay today was when we stopped to refuel at Calcutt boats, the wharf where the diesel pump was located was too shallow to reverse RUNE up to. The set-up there is that a boat hire fleet operates from a short pound between locks 1 and 2 at Calcutt which means that if the hirers all take their boats north then they will drain the pounds as no-one will be bringing water in from the top pound, and that seems to be what had happened. The problem was resolved by the crew feeding water down through the top lock and refilling the pound, giving me enough water to be able to reverse back up to the wharf. The result of the delay however was that it was almost dark before we were able to reach a mooring for the night.
