Braunston

Here I am Rune
Distance 4.7 miles
Total 2210 Locks  90 Tunnels
Running total mileage 3133.4 miles

This time we have reached our ‘target’ for the day, although we had set the bar lowpretty since all we needed to do was to get back to Braunston which was just 4.75 miles and no locks so it was only the work of an hour and a half to get here.

The temperature has now plummeted since we were walking last week. Then it seemed almost like summer, walking in T-shirts and sweating in the sunshine, today a boat that came past us told us that there was ice on the canal where they had moored for the night (bottom of Napton flight of locks). I suppose that with the temperature falling that fast it makes it that much more noticeable. The saving grace when travelling today was that there was no wind so, although it was chilly steering the boat at the back, it wasn’t bitingly cold.

I think that the plan for tomorrow will be to go up the Braunston flight of locks and through the tunnel (our first since Islington tunnel in London), but it rather depends upon what the weather is going to do. The Forecast is for rain in the morning so if it looks bad we may remain here and move on Thursday. The one advantage of mooring in Braunston is that the internet signal is awesome (60Mbps) even though we get no phone signal at all!
