Down as far as Gayton ready to head down the locks towards Northampton tomorrow. I think I’ll top up with diesel before going down onto the River Nene since I don’t know the area or where the facilities are. With a full tank of diesel I wont be needing to refuel until the the end of July hopefully.

When I checked with previous mooring places, it seems that we have moored about 70 metres from the place we moored last time we came through, I’m obviously not very imaginative in picking my moorings.

We managed to team up with another couple, travelling in their boat to London, to go down the Buckby Flight of locks, which made things a whole lot quicker and simpler. There do seem to be more boats on the move now, and I expect it will get busier after 4th July. I would guess that we will be down onto the Northampton Arm by tomorrow, and hopefully down through the locks by Wednesday, putting us onto the River Nene.

Other than once again being quite windy, there were no particular dramas today and, since we haven’t come that far it wasn’t a particularly testing day.

Norton Junction

Running total mileage 5871.9 miles

Having left it until Sunday before moving on, the weather held up nicely for us, a bit windy but the direction was such that it didn’t cause any real problems. I quite enjoyed the trip through Braunston Tunnel, I’d forgotten just how bendy it is (with the major kink 400 metres from the Eastern portal).

We’ve carried on to just before Norton Junction since, to go further, we’d have started down the Buckby Flight of locks, thought we’d save them for tomorrow.

Braunston

Here I am Rune
Distance 3.1  miles
Total 4015 Locks  263 Tunnels
Running total mileage 5867.7 miles

On yet another hot day it was a pleasant cruise bringing us into Braunston for some of the weekend. The forecast has been a bit confusing since on the Met Office site the forecast was for a sunny Friday whereas on the BBC Weather page they were threatening thunderstorms. My original plan was to do the weekend shop on Friday when the weather was due to be bad, and then move on again on Saturday when the weather was due to be a bit better. Now it looks like thunderstorms on Saturday so we’ll have to see just how it pans out before we make concrete plans for moving.
