Penkridge

Here I am  Rune
Distance  4.3 miles
Total 3064 Locks  161 Tunnels
Running total mileage 4507.8 miles

At last a day that actually felt like Spring, although still a bit of a chill in the air,but it was certainly pleasantly sunny. It’s funny how we seem to meet very few boats on the move between the locks, but when you get to a lock it becomes like ‘rush hour’. We needed the facilities at Gailey Top lock but with all of the hire boats moored there, people taking on water and people waiting for the lock it got a bit crowded for a while.
Since we are comfortably on our schedule we decided to have a short day today of only just over 4 miles as far as Penkridge. Stocked up on a couple of things whilst here, including a new pair of Wellingtons since my old one’s have now started to leak. I settled for a pair of Dunlop’s for £14 rather than the Hunters for about £80!.

Tomorrow we’ll get a bit more coal from Midland Chandlers as we pass then carry on to the outskirts of Stafford.
