And so today we reach the end of the Basingstoke Canal! A
bit of a struggle getting through the are of the Dogmersfield landslip but
other than that pretty much without any drama. There have been quite a few
boats on the move today, I think we have passed more on the last section than
we had passed most of the way up here. A couple were hire boats from Galleon
marine here towards the end of the canal, I can only assume that they just do
short breaks since they are a bit limited in range.
Upon arrival here we’ve had a look around Odiham Castle (one
of King John’s) which is an interesting construction, sort of circular held up
by a central column.

We’ve also had a look at Greywell Tunnel (now collapsed)
which has quite a colony of bats in the uncollapsed section. And as one final
bonus, I found a nearby Geocache to add to my tally, so a reasonably successful
day.

Tomorrow we start to head back towards Woking and the start of the canal
so that we can then have a week on the Wey.
