Today seemed to be one of those days when things don’t really go according to plan, although having said that, we did reach our intended destination. It began badly since as soon as we set of from the mooring we got a length of cloth wrapped around the prop that no amount of stopping and reversing would free, so it was necessary to go down the weed hatch to fix it. Since the canal was shallow at that point and getting to the side wasn’t an option it was just a case of stop in the middle of the canal and get on with it. Of course the inevitable boat came along whilst I was fixing it and they also ended up across the canal!

The next issue is that we have had an annoying ‘peeping’ coming from the warning alarm for the engine alternator. This has been going on for some time (months) but due to the random nature of it, it is difficult to pin down what is wrong with it. Yesterday we travelled for 4 hours without a sound from the alarm. Today it starts making the ‘peeping’ sound within 5 minutes of setting off and continues to do so for over an hour when it, just as randomly, stops. I’m hoping that the alternator lasts until we can get back to the Braunston area when hopefully I’ll be able to take it back to where I bought it from to try to resolve the problem.

Tomorrow is another hard working day back down the Deep Cut and Brookwood flights of locks, so another 17 locks to do.
