So having ended our stay in Birmingham with an excellent Bryan Adams concert last night, we set off today for a gentle trip along the Old Main Line out to the Black Country Museum. Can’t remember the last time we coverered this ground, suffice to say that there has been a lot of building competed around the Soho Loop. Except for the prolonged bit under the M5. I’d forgotten what a pleasant piece of canal the Old Main Line actually is. There are a lot of water lillies growing and they seem to be clearing the water nicely since as you pass through Tividale Quays you can see all the fish in the water. When we got to the BCLM I thought all of the moorings had been taken as there were 4 boats moored and a load of heritage boat moored by the tunnel gauge. After I’d turned around however I saw that the 24 hour mooring just before the swing bridge was seemingly still in use, and after checking in the gift shop that it was, here we are for the night. Of course once they swing the bridge at about 5pm we cannot get off, but that isn’t a problem since we weren’t going to anyway, except perhaps to use the shower block. I’ve checked the showers and it seems they are both out of commission anyway, so that solved that ‘problem’.
Tomorrow the intention will be to get to Bentley Bridge mooring before going down the Wolverhampton 21 on Wednesday (possibly).
