Coven

Here I am Rune
Distance  7.2 miles
Total 3554 Locks  219 Tunnels
Running total mileage 5147.4 miles

Today was a good workout travelling down the Wolverhampton Flight of 21 locks which took us three and a quarter hours from casting off at the lock mooring at the top, to mooring up for lunch at the bottom. Given that the expected rate of travel is about 3 lock miles per hour (3 miles or 3 locks or combinations of the two) that wasn’t a bad rate, particularly as we weren’t rushing, we just had a good system in operation.
We have managed travel on four canals again today, Wyrley and Essington, Birmingham Old Main Line, Staffs and Worcs and the Shropshire Union. Technically we’ve also done one tunnel since the long bridge in Wolverhampton is known as ‘Wolverhampton Tunnel’ in my map.

Temperature has dropped a bit and we are talking of the possibility of lighting the fire tonight which is a bit unexpected given how warm it was only a week or so ago. We are also promised some of Storm Hannah tonight which may encourage the lighting of the fire.
