Wilmcote

Here I am Rune
Distance  3.6 miles
Total 3410 Locks  185 Tunnels
Running total mileage 4945.0 miles

The canal is now open once again and we are on the move. Stopping off at Valley Cruisers to empty the Elsan and fill the fuel tank so we are now OK for a few days we’ve cruised on up to Wilmcote, getting the Wilmcote flight of locks out of the way, the one’s that were causing the hold up. After a few weeks of wide navigations it is a bit different to be back onto a narrow canal, particularly as this canal, especially in the bridge holes, seems to be a very narrow canal. The depth seem alright so the recent rain has pushed the level back up a bit as, back during the heatwave, this was one of the canals at risk from shortage of water.

It is now going to be a steady plod up through the locks and eventually into Birmingham, although we don’t need to be there until the end of the month so there will be a bit of time to kill.

Final impressions of Stratford on Avon, a pleasant town with interesting features and not a bad place to have to sit out a stoppage.

  1. Our plan is to go to Droitwich via Hatton, Lapworth locks and Birmingham, starting the middle of next week, so will keep an eye out for you
