Today went a lot swifter than yesterday and we reached our target of Bywith Lock service block. We have heard a lot of stuff about Stalybridge with suggestions that there is a penchant for the local youth to stone passing boats but our passage through was without incident and, if the reports aren’t correct it seems a shame to avoid the place because there is a profusion of moorings that look pretty good.  Rather than take the risk and later regret it however we have pressed on to the service block which is over a mile out of Stalybridge.

This puts us comfortable on our target to get to Standedge Tunnel for the passage through on Friday, there is even the suggestion that tomorrow we go on to Upper Mill and stay there for a couple of days, travelling the last few miles up to the tunnel entrance on Thursday. We’ll see what we feel like doing.
