Cooper Bridge, Huddersfield

Here I am Rune
Distance 3.9 miles
Total 2750 Locks  130 Tunnels
Running total mileage 3722.7 miles

We have now moved on through the Huddersfield Broad Canal, and I have to say it wasn’t as difficult as I anticipated it to be. We have to put our boat diagonally across the lock since we are 60 feet long and the locks are only 58 feet long, but once we’ve done that we are left with about a foot clearance from the cill. It has been a bit of a shuffle to get out of the locks, Lock 6 being the shortest, and had we been much longer we wouldn’t have got out, but we are now onto the Calder and Hebble (still short locks) where I expect to remain for tonight and tomorrow night by which time we will hopefully move onto the Aire and Calder Navigation and things then get a whole lot easier (hopefully)

An interesting style of lift bridge

The gap between the rear of RUNE and the cill in an average HBC lock
