We may have intended to go through Great Hayward and on towards Stone today but that isn’t quite what happened, it is always difficult to make such plans on the canals! The hold-up occurred at Colwich Lock where an inexperienced boater had a problem with the lock. It seems that they got a bit confused as to which paddles needed to be opened and which needed to be closed, their confusion led to a tailback of 6 boats all waiting below the lock (us included) to go up. Problem finally sorted but we were held up for about an hour at that lock so instead of reaching Great Haywood for lunch we have reached Great Haywood for the night’s mooring. Passed Shugborough Hall and Park on the way, a fairly impressive sight I must say. Well hopefully tomorrow on towards Stone, depending upon any further hold-ups.
