Reached Hungerford about lunchtime an decided that it seemed a pleasant place to stay for the night so did a bit of shopping then just chilled out for the afternoon. Hungerford is a quite attractive place (even though the weather is a little bit grim here at the moment) it just seems a shame that the event that everyone seems to link with it is a disaster back in 1987 with an idiot with a gun. I do have some recollection of the place from my early childhood since we came through here to go to Littlecote, a supposed haunted house in the vicinity. As with most places however, a lot has changed in the last 50 years!

The canal is becoming even more pleasant, and remote, as we travel further west although we still remain alongside the railway until we reach Pewsey where it veers away from the canal, not returning until after we have gone through Trowbridge into Bradford on Avon.

Also have received the notification of the various winter stoppages on this canal so with have to tailor our travels to try to avoid them. Tomorrow hopefully onto Little or Great Bedwyn.
