Cleeve Lock and Goring

Map Reference SU 60107 82016

Distance 5.5 Miles

Total 104 Locks 6 Tunnels

Having carefully extricated ourselves from our ‘jungle mooring’ at Wallingford we then continued on down the Thames to Cleeve Lock, although the original plan was to go further, this was such an attractive location we moored for lunch and stayed for the rest of the day. The farmer came around in the early evening to collect her mooring fee of £4 but since we are moored directly opposite an attractive property for sale and valued at £2,495,000 , £4 to stay here seems a bit of a bargain! We spent the afternoon walking to Streatley and Goring which I have to be honest, were a bit of a disappointment. Some pleasant houses but nothing architecturally striking and apparently little of historical note.

Once again the trip along the Thames has been glorious with fabulous views and, at the moment, hot sunshine. The planned distance tomorrow will only take us as far as Pangbourne since we still have a couple of days to spend on the river to get full value from our weeks licence. There were no particular dramas today, just a pleasant cruise along the river.
