Barlaston (Wedgewood)

Here I am Rune

Distance 4.3 miles

Total 4432 Locks  279 Tunnels

Running total mileage 6,646.2 miles

Taking advantage of the pleasant weather we have had a cruise from Stone but only as far as the old Wedgewood factory at Barlaston. There was the usual domestic stuff to do today, rubbish, water etc. but I added one extra task as we passed through Yard Lock and that was to hack down the weeds surrounding the memorial statue to Christina Collins. It looks as though the only way to access the statue is with a boat and it doesn’t look like anyone has done so for some considerable time. I commented on it last time I passed through Stone and, finding the situation unchanged, decided to take action on it. If the people of Stone find the statue grotesque in some way then it should be removed, but as it is a memorial to a murder victim, it should be maintained in some way.

Not sure of the current plan for tomorrow, we’ll get at least as far as the Caldon Canal junction but mooring apparently isn’t recommended until Engine Lock, and that would make a long day for us. I might moor at the junction if it seems OK and then go up the Caldon on Monday.
