Bedford

Here I am  Rune

Distance 6.9 miles

Total 4100 Locks  264 Tunnels

Running total mileage 6,152.1 miles

We got away today before the kayakers, swimmers and paddle-boarders got to Great Barford, but then there were still quite a lot of canoes on the way into Bedford. The rule with canoes is to always expect them to do the unexpected such as when approaching Cardington Lock moorings a canoe appeared from around the corner from the direction of the lock and cheerfully paddled across in front of my bow which meant I had to come to something of a stop.

Although the speed on the river seems higher than on the canals, it does appear to take us longer to get to places, I think that the lock operation is slower. Tomorrow the plan is to get to the limit of navigation and then set off back, there doesn’t seem much of interest in Bedford, particularly since a lot of the stuff remains closed.
