What another fantastic day’s weather for cruising! We had a bit of work to do as we passed through the 11 locks of the Atherstone flight but when the weather is like this it is just a pleasure. 

The only real drama of the day took place behind when one local character somehow contrived to fall into the canal and was fished out by the crew of the boat behind. I didn’t see the incident but I had noticed that the boat that had been following us up the flight had disappeared and was curious what his delay had been. All was explained when a rather wet chap came walking up the towpath explaining that he had just fallen in and the man on the boat behind had used his gangplank to help him out again.

Tomorrow I hope to be onto the Ashby Canal.
