Halesowen (Hawne Basin)

Here I am Rune
Distance 7 miles

Running total mileage 5787.3 miles

As planned, I stayed at Merry Hill until Thursday then took a gently cruise back to Hawne Basin. It turned out that I was travelling at the same time as another couple of boats from the basin so when I got to Blowers Green lock, I left it set for them to enter, it seemed OK to empty the lock after I’d gone through since there wasn’t much else moving on the canal.

So back in the basin with a few minor domestic jobs to be done.

Merry Hill

Here I am Rune
Distance 7 miles
Total 3950 Locks  249 Tunnels
Running total mileage 5780.3 miles

Since the weather today was fine and sunny, an ideal autumnal day, I decided to go off for a short cruise, going as far as Merry Hill. Couldn’t ask for better conditions at this time of year, a bit chilly but sunny with blue skies. The wildlife was out in force as well, having passed 2 kingfishers (or the same one twice, albeit 3 miles apart, but they all look the same) along with the usual mallards and canada geese who regard where I have moored as ‘their’ spot, duly marked with quite a lot of goose muck.

I don’t know how long I’ll stay out, Thursday at the latest, but all dependant upon what the weather does.
