Nantwich

I took the trek into Nantwich but didn’t go swimming as originally planned. I did note however that the embankment moorings in Nantwich were surprisingly empty so we made the decision that, rather than waiting until Thursday before moving onto the Nantwich mooring, we’d do it today. The weather wasn’t ideal since it was both cold and very windy, but we got through to Nantwich OK and are now moored once again on the embankment. The intention is to remain here for about a fortnight whilst we do some stuff that we have planned.

Hurleston

We hung around at Calverley but the weather remained pretty cold so we decided not to head on up to Chester on this occasion but after a week to turn around and head back towards Nantwich. We had to move today since our water tank would have been getting quite low so we turned around at the Bunbury Winding hole, went back to Calverley services to sort out rubbish and water and have now pressed back on Hurleston where we will probably stay moored until about Thursday.

Since we are within walking distance of Nantwich I may trek in tomorrow to go for a swim since I haven’t been since last month.

The forecasted snow did come across although not as bad as predicted with little or no settlement, it eventually turned to sleet and then rain. Since we woke up with a thin layer of ice across the canal again, it was felt that it would be a good idea to move up here to Calverley in case there is a prospect of the canal fully freezing again since at least here we have all services and a bus to Nantwich if we need to.

I think we’ll stop here for a while until we see what the weather is going to do. If it warms up a bit we’ll push on up to Chester but if it looks like we are going to get frozen in, we’ll stay where we are.

Church Minshull

We saw out the weekend at Middlewich and then today moved off back here to Church Minshull. Although the forecast was for it to be very cold, it was not that unpleasant travelling today. There was virtually no wind, consequently no wind chill factor, so cruising was OK. Not much new I can say about this bit of canal since we’ve been along it about 4 times so far this winter, still much the same.I do like this mooring at Church Minshull though since the view from the boat window is very pleasant.

We moored up quite early today (just after 1.00pm) so I took the opportunity of a leisurely afternoon to cut up some wood for the fire. I have now sawn up most of the original pallets that I got back in November and have about 2 nets and a basket or kindling for firelighting. There is still one more pallet top on the roof, currently under the coal, to be cut up and then we will have used all of the pallets, we’ll just have to see if it lasts us until the weather warms up (end of next month hopefully!).

The forecast for tomorrow is for snow, we’ll see.
