Lapworth

Here I am Rune

Distance 6.4  miles

Total 4239 Locks  266 Tunnels

Running total mileage 6,456.9 miles

We didn’t make it to Hockley Heath, but the top of the Lapworth flight is good enough for me. It was quite busy on the flight, which was curious because from when we set off this morning from the top of Hatton flight we didn’t pass a single moving boat. I think we met about 6 boats coming down the flight and crossing in some of the pounds can be a bit tight. Above lock 14 we met a hire boat that looked to be about 60 feet and he moored in the pound waiting for us to come up. Unfortunately he was moored too close to the lock I was coming out of leaving a 4 foot wide gap to get a 6 foot wide narrowboat through, so we had a bit of shuffling to do there. Above lock 8 we had a similar issue with a Canal Boat Club boat that was 55 feet long. It is quite a tight corner there so once again it involved a bit of shuffling around. Although there were less locks in this flight than Hatton, it took us longer to get through, but all part of the fun.

Not sure what the plan is for tomorrow, the weather forecast is dire so we might just sit it out.
