So we sat out the thunderstorms at Bentley Bridge, taking advantage of the facilities there (shops, swimming pool) and today, in far better weather, took on the Wolverhampton 21 flight again. We are kind of used to this flight now and you just get into the rhythm and plod on until you get to the bottom, as per normal it took us about 4 hours, but that included the obligatory dive down the weed hatch to clear a load of plastic, annoying just 2 locks before the bottom.
The volunteer at the top told us that there was an issue with water on the flight and he’d been running some down to fill some dry pounds. He had seemingly been a bit too enthusiastic on that front since around lock 13 we were flooding the towpath whenever we emptied a lock, in fact the level in one pound was up so much that it knocked the chimney off as I came out of a lock and under a bridge. It improved the further down we got.
Tomorrow will be shopping day and then heading down towards Whitwick.
