Ossett

Here I am Rune
Distance 6.3 miles
Total 2831 Locks  130 Tunnels
Running total mileage 4033.5 miles

Today we got no-where near as far as I might have anticipated yesterday (Cooper Bridge cut) having only made it as far as about a mile short of the Dewsbury cut. It isn’t exactly a problem since we aren’t on a mission to get anywhere in any great hurry. The delay was caused by a rather badly leaking Broad Cut Low Lock which made opening the bottom gates to get into the lock a bit problematic. We solved the problem by setting up a sort of rope and tackle and pulled the gate open using one of the lock bollards but this is clearly a lock in need of some maintenance. The leaking lock had lowered the water level in the pound above it which must have been of some concern to a group of long term moorers in the pound.

I won’t make any predictions of how far we’ll get tomorrow since it will probably be wrong. A sort of minor plan would be to try to get to Sowerby Bridge by Monday otherwise we’ll have to contact CRT to book a passage through Tuel Lane lock later in the week, if we can get there by Monday there will be a lock-keeper on duty (allegedly).
