Another ‘stand still’ day today (as will all days be until Thursday) but finished the visit to the maritime museum including the International Slavery Museum. I did find the Slavery Museum a bit of a disappointment since a lot of it seems to centre on racism which I personally consider a separate issue to slavery. I do accept that historically slavery was a black experience however it needs to be realised that slavery is continuing to this day and it doesn’t just involve black Africans. There are currently Nepalese, Indian and Sri Lankan migrant workers in Qatar under what is effectively slave conditions working to deliver the 2022 World Cup. There are Cambodian and Burmese fishermen in Thailand currently working under slave conditions to supply us with cheap fish, I would have expected more of a mention of these sort of things since it was supposed to be an International Slavery Museum, possibly even something to raise awareness of these issues.

The Museum of Liverpool was my last visit of the day and it was fascinating to catalogue the rise, decline then rise of Liverpool over the past couple of hundred years. Equally it was interesting to realise the scale of the dockland area before it contracted under the pressure of containerisation of loads.

The weather has been pretty rubbish again today although the wind has now moved around to the South although it is still blowing a ‘hoolie’ and is no warmer. The forecast is better for the rest of the week with early rain tomorrow then clearing up by lunchtime with better weather forecast then until Friday.

The memorial to the engine room crew of the Titanic

The Mersey Ferry painted in 'Razzle Dazzle' colours to confuse submariners trying to torpedo them (I didn't realise it was a problem on the Mersey!!)
