Only a fairly short cruise today to the top of the Tardebigge lock flight to see how they are getting on with repairing the top lock. Since it was only about a 3 mile trip, we didn’t set off until quite late, about 1.20pm after I’d baked a loaf of bread since we had run out and there wasn’t anywhere in Alvechurch to buy any more. In fact the only general shop in the village is closing tomorrow until October so I couldn’t even get any milk from there. Before leaving Alvechurch I popped back into the marina to see if the invoice for replacing our gas regulator had been completed, it had so I settled the £230 bill.

Since I had to get some milk, I travelled into Bromsgrove once we’d got to Tardebigge and, since there are more supermarkets there than I realised, will probably do the weekend shopping there tomorrow, heading back towards Selly Oak on Saturday.

Alvechurch (2)

Not really much cruising done today, 3 times along the same 600 metre piece of canal doesn’t really count for much, but since we are moored in a different part of Alvechurch, filled out the blog for completeness.

Alvechurch

Distance 11.3 miles

Running total mileage 7782.97 miles

So, after four days in Birmingham we have now moved onto Alvechurch, in preparation for some running repairs to be done in the Marina tomorrow. A fairly uneventful day although a lot of it was travelling in ‘mizzle’ the sort of rain that gets you wet but doesn’t do a lot for the shortage of water on the system. Another trip through Wast Hill tunnel reminded me just how long it is (1.8 miles) and they didn’t go over the top on installing ventilation shafts since there are only three that I saw. Compare that with Netherton which is about 1.5 miles and has seven and even Gorsty which is only 500 metres long has got one!

Once we’ve got the work done at Alvechurch we’ll go on to Tardebigge and see how the lock repais are going, and then decide where we are going after that.
